How to Fix Incorrect Media Width Reading on Roland TruVis Printers

Fixing Incorrect Media Width Reading on Roland TruVis Printers

Applies to: Roland SG, VG, SG2, SG3, VG2, VG3 models

Issue

When using shorter rolls of media, the printer may incorrectly read the media width as wider than it actually is. This happens when the pinch roller with the blue mark is positioned outside the edge of the media. For example, the machine may register the media as 30" when it's actually 20".

Cause

Roland printers use the blue marks on the far left and right pinch rollers to determine the width of the media. If one of these marked rollers is not properly aligned with the media edge, the printer will misread the width.

Solution

  1. Locate the pinch rollers with the blue marks — one on the far left and one on the far right.
  2. Slide the left marked roller so that it is directly on the left edge of the media roll.
  3. Ensure the right marked roller is on the right edge of the media roll.
  4. If you're using a Roland SG or VG model:
    1. Remove any of the unmarked middle rollers that are not lined above the position markers on the rail for the rollers.
    2. Use the orange outlined section on the rail to remove the extra roller.
  5. If you're using a Roland SG2, SG3, VG2, or VG3 model:
    1. Do not remove the middle rollers.
    2. Reposition the extra rollers between the active (blue marked) rollers as needed.

InfoNote: Always double-check roller positions before loading media to avoid read errors and ensure smooth operation.
